Senior clinician position in Equine Surgery (ECVS/ACVS)
The Equine Clinic at the Centre for Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), Germany, invites applications for a senior clinician position (“Oberarzt/Oberärztin”) in Equine Surgery. The position is available as of January 1, 2024, or by negotiation.
Candidates must have a veterinary degree. Diplomate status in the European or American College of Veterinary Surgery is required, but residency-trained individuals eligible for final certification examination will also be considered. Knowledge in German language is not necessarily required but candidates should be willing to learn German within a reasonable time.
The successful candidate will enjoy a wealth of opportunities in providing clinical service in a brand new state-of-the-art academic teaching hospital, and in pursuing clinical research in a highly collaborative environment within the faculty. The Equine Clinic is part of the Centre for Clinical Veterinary Medicine with a variety of nationally and internationally board-certified specialists (for instance ECEIM/ACVIM, ECAR, ECVDI, ECVS, ECVD, ECVAA).
Primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will include clinical service, teaching and research in the Equine Clinic. Teaching responsibilities involve didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Service responsibilities involve clinical case management, participation in a 24/7 emergency service, and consultation with private practitioners. Contribution to the continuing education program of the teaching hospital is expected as well as strong commitment to perform at high standards of evidence-based medicine. External grant acquisition and supervision of graduate students are encouraged and supported.
The new Campus of the College of Veterinary Medicine of the LMU Munich is located in Oberschleißheim in the northern outskirt of Munich with its intriguing cultural avenues. Munich is very close to the German Alps as well as to several beautiful lakes, and the region provides easy access to numerous outdoor activities including hiking, biking, climbing and skiing.
